CowPi Journal is a blog written by a guy named Mark Woodward. I don't know Mark but I check in on his latest posts about once or twice a week–can't quite remember how I first found his site. Each post is guaranteed to be an honest reflection, wonderful quote, beautiful poem, or something other than the above but equally worthwhile reading.
This past Sunday he posted a story about his five-year-old son, a homemade cross, and Spiderman: Crucified Hero. The post begins with a quote from Thomas Merton's, New Seeds of Contemplation,
Every moment and every event of every man’s life on earth plants something in his soul. For just as the wind carries thousands of winged seeds, so each moment brings with it germs of spiritual vitality that come to rest imperceptibly in the minds and wills of men. Most of these unnumbered seeds perish and are lost, because men are not prepared to receive them: for such seeds as these cannot spring up anywhere except in the good soil of freedom, spontaneity and love.
